The Biggishmouth on Euro 2016 – The holders look for redemption

spainwinToday at the Stadium Municipal, Toulouse the back to back winners of the last two European Championships, Spain, begin their campaign for the ‘threepeat. Unbeaten in this tournament since 2004 they were on a crest of a wave after their 4-0 win over Italy in the 2012 final which was their third major championship win in a row. At that time Spain were undoubtedly the best football team on the planet and it was going to take a lot to knock them off their perch. Since then things have not been so rosy, a poor World Cup in Brazil a slow start to their Vicente del Bosque looks on in despair during Spain's 2-0 defeat by Chile in the World Cup.qualification campaign and even as recently as last Tuesday they lost at home to Georgia in a friendly. Their aura has gone, but they still have some outstanding players. Vicente Del Bosque was given a reprieve after the World Cup because of his previous work and the fact this is most likely his final tournament in charge. A good start is imperative as we have seen what they can be like when they get a head of steam up in these competitions. I think they will start strong, predictions for todays matches as follows.

Spain 2 Czech Republic 0

Republic of Ireland 1 Sweden 1

Belgium 0 Italy 0
