France are already through in Group C and only require a draw to top the table. Denmark and Australia are fighting it out for the other place. The problem Australia have got is two fold. Peru, who they play, will not be taking their match lightly despite already being knocked out as they will want to give their outstanding fans in Russia something to shout about with some kind of result. The other bigger issue is a point suits both the French and the Danish in their match and I’m expecting a bore draw in that one. Peru will get the win their performances have deserved, all be it too late.

Croatia are through in Group D and the three other teams all have an opportunity to make the knockout phase. The main story is Argentina though. After their defeat last Thursday to the Croatian’s, qualification looked extremely doubtful , with the likelihood it would be out of their hands. However Nigeria’s win over Iceland the following day now means a victory in their final game (against the Africans) could well see them through to the knockout phase as it would at least leapfrog them over their opponents. Goal difference could also be a big factor. Iceland bottled it badly last Friday, showing that when they are the favourites they seemingly cannot handle the pressure, maybe with the underdog tag returning they might be able to get back on track. Personally, on a night where there will be plenty of twists and turns, I feel that the South Americans are somehow going to scrape through and become a dangerous team to face in the Round of 16.

Predictions for Tuesday 26th June

Denmark 0 France 0

Australia 1 Peru 2

Iceland 1 Croatia 1

Nigeria 1 Argentina 3
