The Biggishmouth on the World Cup – Golden Generation for the Red Devils and Stadium fears for the hosts???????

Here are some well known Premier League football players – Vermaelen, Kompany, Vertonghen, Fellaini, Lukaku, Hazard, Mirallas, Mignolet, Dembélé, Januzaj, Chadli

Here are some footballers who ply their trade abroad but to those in the footballing know will be more than aware of their names De Bruyne, Witsel, Courtois , Alderweireld, Van Buyten, Defour

Well the one thing to really note for the aficionado’s is that the above 17 players are all in the Belgium World Cup squad. A golden generation or what!!!!!!!! The key though is being able to perform on the pitch – as paper means nothing. Personally I think they may fall short this time (especially as a European side had never won a World Cup on the American Continent), but come Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018 – the Red Devils could be top of the footballing pile.

Brazil will be hoping to put in a more convincing performance in their second match of the tournament against the Mexicans today. However I have noticed something about their fixture path. The Estádio do Maracanã in Rio holds just under 80,000 people, the largest stadium in Brazil.  Strangely though the hosts are not due to play a match there unless they get to the final. I personally find that very odd, why not at least one group game there – it can fit the most people in. Maybes the nightmare of the 1950 World Cup final match against Uruguay in the Maracana still haunts the country and they want to keep themselves out of the stadium until the final (as it is the largest stadium so you would want most supporters for that game). The counter argument for me (assuming the 5 times champions make it that far) is surely a bit of familiarity of playing there would be helpful to them, espcially as any opponents may already have played a game there.

Todays predictions

Belgium v. Algeria 3-0

Brazil v. Mexico 2-0

Russia v. South Korea 3-1
