If Manchester United was run as a proper football club, the current manager would not be in charge, the coaching team would not be in place and they would also not have joke players such as Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones starting first team matches. Standards are so through the floor results and performances are accepted by the majority of fans because the current head coach is an ex-legend of the club as a player. This is a guy who on his only other foray into management at this level, saw his Cardiff side relegated from the Premier League and then him sacked as they sunk even further after a poor start to their Championship campaign the following season. For me his football has no style and is the worst seen at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson left, only Louis Van Gaal has produced poorer fare than what is being served up at the moment.

Only football idiots would appoint a manager on the back of a single result, despite stating that nobody would be appointed until the end of the season, once Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hired to be caretaker boss after Jose Mourinho was sacked. Well at Old Trafford that is exactly what they have in abundance. The disgrace that is Ed Woodward who after nearly 7 years as the main man (off the pitch) at the reds of Manchester has basically made them a laughing stock when it comes to the round ball game. There is no doubt he is a commercial genius, but his football knowledge is pretty much the square root of zero. A man more bothered about saving money than spending it to win things. His mates from Bristol University Dickie Arnold and Matt Judge, now sit on the board but they also have little or no knowledge of football. Judge, who is the guy that ceded to Alexis Sanchez’s 400k a week wage demands, apparently he is a contracts expert / negotiator, well if that is an experts work, I would hate to see what somebody who hasn’t a clue would end up negotiating. Woodward, Judge and Arnold are just part of an old boys network to make as much money as possible for themselves and the owners the Glazers, whilst making sure the sporting side is starved of the money and nous that is required to make the club a functioning football power.

It is good news for Ed Woodward that they have hired a manager that is basically a doormat and is more than complicit in the issues, especially on the pitch at Old Trafford along with his idiotic rambling press conferences and post match interviews. Sean Dyche, Nigel Pearson, Chris Wilder (and that’s just 3, there are plenty more) – are current top flight managers who are better at their job than Solskjaer and if they had performed as he has this season, supporters would want them out, just ask David Moyes. Fans should support their manager, but he also needs to show them that the team is progressing and let’s be honest they aren’t under his stewardship. The summer transfer window was lauded as a success – Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James brought in, utter garbage, 2 midfielders and a replacement for Romelu Lukaku were also needed, none were brought in and the manager stupidly said, “I am happy with my squad” – lying to the fans at the start of the season is not a good look, unless you hit the ground running with positive results. As previously said, if not a club legend – AS A PLAYER – would fans accept this blatant lie, I doubt, in my opinion. Whilst understandable to a degree, he also won’t have a bad word said about Ed and his mates, claiming they are doing all they can make sure the club can improve and bring players in. It is quite sad seeing a playing legend of Ole’s stature being so under the thumb when it is obvious what is going on. The fact he produces pretty dire safety first football does not help. People defend him saying he has loads of injuries, but I say, he was happy with his squad, claiming youngsters can fill the gaps, but he hardly ever players them. The fact that Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes do not want to sign contract extensions is an indictment on himself as a football manager as well as the club.

Manchester United are now beginning their 2 week mid-season break, introduced this year by the Premier League. Their latest result was a 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers a match the manager described as one his team dominated – spoiler alert – another lie, though I have to say my favourite line from him this season was after a disappointing result against 10 man Southampton he claimed that there is a clear plan and his team cannot control results and outcomes. I’m still trying to see what the plan is and so are many others. Bruno Fernandes has been brought in, 6 months too late mind, during January, a clear wage saving situation to wait till the end of the month to seal the deal, and Odion Ighalo on loan, as previously mentioned, standards through the floor. Another average transfer window and not the actions of a club wanting to get back to being an elite football club, especially when you have a manager and coaching staff way out of their depth. They won’t be sacked as this would expose their bosses as the thick football idiots they are (I have known since 2013 by the way) so we are stuck with the current regime till the end of the season at least. They return to action with a huge clash away at Chelsea before their Europa League campaign continues. The FA Cup resumes in March with an away match against  Derby, a winnable game on paper, but there are not many of them nowadays for a so called football club who are have fallen into mediocrity already with obscurity not far away. Amazingly, despite being poor for vast parts of the season there is still time to save it and get out something tangible. Winning any trophy will be a bonus, but there are plenty more teams better than them and sadly for one of the so called biggest clubs in the world, any success will be seen as a surprise, how the mighty have fallen with most of it self-inflicted.
