As the Premier League comes to a close, there are still many things left to decide, such as the teams to finish in the Champions League qualifying spots as well as the teams to be relegated. Manchester City claimed their third Premier League title after arch rivals Manchester United lost at home to the league’s bottom club West Brom.
The Baggies were able to follow this victory up with an impressive home draw against Liverpool, where West Brom were 2-0 down with just over ten minutes to go, only for goals from Jake Livermore and Salomon Rondon to rescue a point for the league’s basement side. If West Brom are to have any hope of surviving in the Premier League they must win their three remaining matches and in the Premier League odds from Betfair, they are priced at 250/1 to survive.
They kick off their remaining three games with a trip to Newcastle, before they play FA Cup semi-finalists Tottenham Hotspur at the Hawthorns. In what is likely to be their final Premier League match for at least a season, West Brom travel to Crystal Palace.
At the other end of the table, Manchester City are on course to break a couple of Premier League records, with the record number of points and the record number of goals scored both currently being held by Chelsea.
Back in the 2004/05 season Chelsea won the Premier League with the highest number of points in history, 95, however with four games left to play, Manchester City are just five points off equalling the record and six off beating it. With the remaining games for City being West Ham away, Huddersfield and Brighton at home and then finally Southampton away, it is hard to see past City grabbing at least six points, which would give them the record.
In the 2009/10 season, where Chelsea won their third Premier League title, scoring a record number of goals in the process. Their record of 103 goals is currently under threat as Manchester City require just six goals in their four remaining fixtures and in taking on some of the leakiest defences, Sergio Aguero and co should be able to claim the record for their own.
We’ve made our predictions for the Premier League Team of the Season in the infographic below, which includes some of those Manchester City players who are set to become record breakers.
